Make a Change, Make a Difference
As you consider a career with Senior Life, let me share my journey with you. Chances are, I have walked in your shoes and have been right where you are today. I grew up in rural South Georgia as the youngest of 14 brothers and sisters. My mother stayed at home to take care of us, and my father was a city employee working as a garage mechanic. Times were very tough.
I began my insurance career in 1972 with Independent Life and Accident Insurance Company as a debit agent. I worked for 16 years with Independent Life and never earned more than $24,000 in one year.
In 1988, I took a leap of faith and began a new career as a final expense agent. When I got my first set of leads, my wife, Rosemary, and I drove to the town the leads were in and mapped out where every prospect lived. The first week was tough. After working all week, I earned a negative $60.00. The same was true for my second week. Most people would have probably given up, but I believed that if I just stuck with it I could be successful. I had the heart and an earnest desire to succeed. My third week, I earned $2,500.00 and began having the kind of success I had always dreamed of.
In hindsight, I know that my unwillingness to change held me back for 16 years. Now, I feel rewarded many times over: spiritually, personally, and financially. The point is that I did it, and now, I want to help others become just as successful. Senior Life provides the tools, support and leadership. You have to provide the commitment, attitude, work ethic, and a desire to change your life. Today, you have the opportunity of a lifetime. By sharing my story with you, I am reminded of how I got here and what it takes to accomplish a goal. The single most important element of my success is that God blessed me and gave me the ability to overcome my fears in order to begin my financial success.
